The Synopsis:
A Vision of the Future.
A Critique of the Present.

Set in the year 2034, the play follows Neyrouz, a woman who discovers herself at the heart of a revolutionary enterprise: organizing an unprecedented, radical festival alongside a fiercely ambitious team. Operating outside the gaze of a rapidly declining political class, this festival becomes the catalyst for profound and irreversible societal transformations.

On the eve of her trial, Neyrouz stands alone in the chaos, delivering a poignant, intimate recounting of her life. The stage transforms into a provocative space—littered with the detritus of a hyper-sexualized, capitalist society—as she navigates a whirlwind of contemporary dance, song, and explosive theatricality.

Thematic Core
& Artistic Vision:
Intersectional Authorship
& The Protective Shield of Comedy

2034 is a cruel, scathing, and uncompromising pamphlet that refuses to make concessions. Built on a foundation of participatory art and intersectional feminism, the production is designed to awaken consciences while navigating strict state and societal censorship. The script breathes with the authentic, collective frustration of a generation, having been co-created by Moncef Zahrouni and a dedicated writing workshop that engaged a diverse group of participants ranging from 20 to 50 years old. The play also actively dismantles ageism and classism in the performing arts by centering marginalized bodies. By casting Fatma Felhi, a non-privileged actress over 50 who is actively navigating menopause, the production confronts the systemic invisibilization of older women and turns her lived reality into a profound, unapologetic statement on bodily autonomy. Ultimately, by using dark comedy as a protective shield, the project safely and subversively tackles the most heavily censored taboos in the MENA region, including the psychological impacts of the pornography industry, the policing of women's bodies, and modern political hypocrisy.

A Poignant Success Story

Since its premiere at El Teatro, 2034 has proven that audiences are hungry for unapologetic, non-normative art, achieving a massive initial run of 18 consecutive performances within just nine months. The production currently serves as the centerpiece of the Continuum Tour, our decentralized national initiative that breaks the capital's cultural monopoly by subsidizing free tickets for students and women in underserved regions. To ensure this human rights advocacy extends far beyond the physical stage, our commitment to digital democratization through high-definition professional filming and video integration guarantees the work will transcend geographical borders indefinitely.

Dr. Souhir Lahiani, Réalités Magazine

A frontal, overwhelming monologue... It questions moral and political norms using shock and provocation as a means to awaken consciences. An intense mix of anger, sadness, and joy.
